Angelo Leo Gets W on Friday Night ShoBox, From Mayweather Promotions

Las Vegas- ShoBox: The Next Generation made its return on Friday night, showcasing three of the prospects from the Mayweather Promotions stable of fighters.

ShoBox with a longstanding reputation debuting up and coming talent with the potential of future stardom and last night did not disappoint.

Angelo Leo (16-0 8KOs) UD- John Tabano (17-5 11KOs)

In his first opportunity to display his skills as a headliner on a national stage, Angelo Leo did not disappoint,  scoring a unanimous decision victory over a game John Tabano. In the process, he showcased the tools that have lead Leonard Ellerbe of Mayweather Promotions to believe his career is on the precipice of stardom.

Despite the early rounds being fought at a slower pace, Leo was dominant in landing continual counter punches and flurries. As the fight continued, the distance shortened, allowing Angelo to deliver a high percentage of power shots and impress with solid head movement and defense. At no point was there a question that Leo wasn’t in total control, ending the fight with a clean sweep on all the judges’ scorecards 100-89, 100-90, 100-90.

Xavier Martinez (14-0 10 KOs) TKO 3- John Moralde (21-3 11KOs)

In what could be described as an offensive onslaught and arguably the most impressive performance of the night, Xavier Martinez punched his way through an overmatched John Moralde in route to a 3^rdround stoppage. Through two, Moralde could not offer much other than to serve as target practice for the Californian Xavier, who ultimately dropped the Philippine fighter early in the 3^rd. After the standing 8 count, Martinez applied immediate pressure, landing clear shots that lead Tony Weeks to step in and stop the fight.

Andres Cortes (11-0 6 KOs) UD- Jahmal Dyer (9-2 5 KOs)

After three seemingly close rounds, Cortes landed a sweeping right at the end of round 3 that wobbled Dyer as he walked back to the corner. But in the 4^thas Cortes tried to pressure, Dyer dropped him to the canvas with a straight right that caught the Las Vegas native off balance. Ishmael was never able to build on his knockdown, slowed by Cortes who showed to be the stronger, better conditioned fighter. After handling the final 4 rounds with solid pressure and consistently landing counter right hands, Cortes cruised to victory on the judges scorecards. 78-73, 79-73, 78-74
