Whisper Source Says Hurd v Trout On For July 29 in Brooklyn

Young gun Jarrett Hurd will get tested by vet Austin Trout on July 29 at Barclays Center, we are told.

Hurd is 20-0 and won the vacant IBF 154 strap when he downed Tony Harrison in February, on a Deontay Wilder undercard in Alabama.

Trout might have seen better days but is still tricky and owns a 30-3 record.

Could we see a repeat setup in July, Wilder on top and Hurd underneath? Wilder co trainer and manager Jay Deas told me he doesn't know specifics of Wilder's next bout  but that July 29 would be the earliest the big Bama brawler would be ready to rock. “I'm waiting to hear something in the next 24 to 48 hours, maybe,” Deas told me, when I asked if Bermane Stiverne would meet Wilder, the WBC heavyweight title holder, in a rematch.

Wilder has been craving some unification action, maybe with WBO titlist Joseph Parker, after a stoppage win over Gerald Washington.

I asked someone in the know, a second source, if they too heard that Hurd-Trout was made for the summer date in Brooklyn and was told it isn't confirmable but is “possible.”

Oh, and if Wilder isn't the main, could a Mikey Garcia v Adrien Broner scrap, maybe at a catchweight, top the card? Broner is starting camp next week, for some fight, might this be the one, and the site for that tango, which would get mad buzz?

Stay tuned as more chips fall.
