Who Is Ryan Bourland? Boxing Record, Bio and Background

To say that the Ryan Bourland boxing record isn’t exactly one that would capture the attention of most boxing fans would be quite an understatement. It’s fair to say most wouldn’t have a clue who he is but for the fact that he’ll be getting inside the ring with Jake Paul this weekend.

Bourland and YouTuber Paul are the co-main event for Serrano vs Meinke in Peurto Rico, in what is likely to be a raucous crowd for champion Serrano.

There is no way that Bourland would be anywhere close to this high up on the bill of such a huge night ordinarily. However, in the current state of boxing, the ‘Problem Child’ is desperate to prove he’s a legitimate boxer and that means taking on actual professionals, even if that’s not at the top level or anywhere close to it.

It’s unlikely you’ll have heard of Paul’s latest opponent so ahead of their fight on Saturday night we’ve got all the information from the Ryan Bourland bio.

Who is Ryan Bourland?

Well, unlike most of Jake Paul’s opponents, he is actually a professional boxer with a history in the sport. It’s only the third time that the social media star has had such an opponent, losing to Tommy Fury but defeating Andre August last time out.

The Ryan Bourland bio starts in California, where he was born, in June 1988, although he is now billed as living in Dickinson, North Dakota.

The American is not even considered ‘active’ by BoxRec, which makes the Ryan Bourland boxing record slightly questionable.

He has the nickname ‘The Rhino’ and the 35 year old had to battle a tough upbringing and a return to the ring at 22, in order to make a name for himself.

Ryan Bourland's Amateur Career

During his amateur career, Bourland didn’t reach the heights of competing at the Olympics or world championships, but he still has plenty of success to look at.

The Ryan Bourland boxing record starts with him becoming a Golden Gloves champion and a National Junior Olympian as he was starting his career.

However, he decided to swap the amateurs for the paid ranks in October 2013, although it’s unlikely he’ll have made as much in one fight previously as he will this weekend.

Ryan Bourland's Professional Career

If the Ryan Bourland boxing record in the amateur ranks had some highlights, it’s fair to say that he hasn’t reached such heights in his professional career so far.

The 6”0 boxer hasn’t got inside the squared circle with any opponents of much note so far. One might argue that it won’t change when the opening bell rings to start his fight with Paul this weekend either.

One thing going for is that in 19 fights so far he’s been successful in 17 of them and has only lost twice. Of those two defeats, only one of them has been via stoppage. Certainly his opponent in the sweet science on Saturday night will be hoping to add to those KOs against Bourland.

The man in his mid 30s also has six wins by stoppage in his career, and 11 others coming by decision. None of his previous opponents have had an undefeated record and few have even had a winning record going into their fights with Bourland.

His last fight was in September 2022, which was a TKO victory over Santario Martin. Before that, he hadn’t fought since 2018. That means his three fight win streak is over six years and doesn’t hold too much legitimacy going into his bout with Paul.

Ryan Bourland Bio

Considering he’s fought former NBA stars, fellow YouTubers, an ex Love Islander and MMA fighters inexperienced in boxing, it’s no surprise that the Ryan Bourland bio is of a lower reputation than most of Paul’s previous opponents.

But his profile aside, Bourland is at least a professional boxer with a number of fights behind him ahead of this one.

Let’s have a look at how the Ryan Bourland boxing record stacks up against the YouTuber’s previous rivals inside the squared circle.

In his first four professional bouts, Paul only took on debutants in the shape of Ali Eson Gib, Nate Robinson, Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley.

After winning all four, the first three by stoppage, he finally faced someone who’d previously had a fight, but it was only Woodley for a second time. The former UFC champion’s only past fight had been against Paul in their first meeting.

UFC legend Anderson Silva was the first person that the Problem Child came up against who’d had a boxing fight against someone who wasn’t him. The Brazilian had a 3-1-0 record going into their bout.

Tommy Fury’s 8-0-0 was by far the best record of anyone Paul had previously faced, and it was no surprise when the brother of world heavyweight champion Tyson was victorious.

After defeating Nate Diaz, on the UFC legend’s boxing debut, Paul faced Andre August at the end of 2023. Now he takes on Bourland, just the third legitimate boxer in his career to date.
