Epilogue For “Pac Man” from the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, 1-19-19

A 40 year old Manny Pacquiao stepped in to the ring Saturday night at the MGM in Las Vegas and put on a boxing show.

His defense was primo with textbook head and body movement, a la the Cus D’Amato school. Throwing wonderful combinations off a stiff jab, he connected often to the body. He outworked and out-boxed a stronger, bigger guy who is also eleven years younger. Pacquiao started his pro career when this dude was 6 years old.

His opponent calls himself “AB”, because he cannot keep track of more than two letters at time. Jab calls him “Mr Loser,” whose lazy jab and single shot counter-punching avoided any combinations or initiative. Maybe a fair solution would be to pay him by the punch in any future bouts? In any case, “Mr Loser’s” no-style fighting has nothing to do with boxing, which is how he achieved a well-deserved, dominant, unanimous decision loss to the Senator from Sarangani.

Manny Pacquiao looked damned good, writes Jab Hook and Adrien Broner was unimpressive big time.

It was nice to see our legendary “Pac Man” again, especially because he put “Mr Loser, aka Mr Major Disappointment” in his place. It is actually sad when you think of how much boxing potential “Mr M.D.” possessed at the start. After years squandering his talent in the ring, and screwing up his life outside the ring, watching his bouts has become tiresome. So Jab would like to suggest that is it time for Manny Pacquiao and “Mr M.D.” to both retire from boxing, but for vastly differing reasons. The Champ has achieved historic heights in pugilism, and the other guy has wasted enough of our time, and his own.

But with all due respect to Mr Broner, Jab is sympathetic to his situation. What’s been missing in his life is a guardian. Someone he can trust, that keeps him safe and content, with emphasis on the safety on the streets. Jab wishes Mr Broner the best and hopes he can somehow find his way.

Jab Hook says he roots for Broner to see the light and get on the path of the straight and narrow,

One more thing, the uncouth remarks to Mr Al Bernstein were uncalled for and inappropriate. Broner’s grand-mommy would slapped his face, if she had been there. Al has forgotten more about boxing than Broner will ever know. Funny was how Al handled it like a gentleman, listened, and put Broner back in his place, “I’ll take that as a no, ” said Bersntein. Maybe Adrien should consider doing a Dale Carnegie seminar on “How to Win Friends and Influence People.

This was the Jab’s easiest pick of the year.

Jab Hook’s 2019 predictions: 7 of 9 correct on January 20th = 77.8%

(2018: 92 of 112 correct = 82.1%, to date 99 of 121 correct = 81.8%)
