This week, Mike Etienne of Manhattan will be attending his fourth fantasy camp put together by Gleason’s Gym boss Bruce Silverglade.
“I always go with my boxing coach Terry Southerland who always told me about the camp,” Etienne told NYF. “I am a boxing fan but in the beginning I followed the careers of retired fighters to understand their methodology. This past year I’ve been dipping my toe in the waters of the likes of Lomachenko, Terrence Crawford, just to name a few.”
So, tomorrow, Etienne will be hitting Honor’s Haven, a resort in Ellenville, NY, halfway between NYC and Albany. I asked him what he wants to get out of the session, which runs Aug. 9-12.
“This year I’m not quite sure what I’d like to get out of the camp but it’ll be good to catch up with my fellow brother and sister pugilists again who I’ve met from previous camps,” he said.
He has been married for 11 years, and trains fighters, so he will pick up tips from the lines of Iran Barkley, and Yuri Foreman, and lists his interests as “drawing, reading, laughing, and napping.”
And the sweet science, and all that entails, to mind and body. You can call Bruce today and snag a spot at this, the 16th annual camp.
