Michael WoodsGennady Golovkin came to NY on Tuesday and talked up his March 18 scheduled rumble with fellow middleweight titlist Danny Jacobs, at Madison Square Garden.
He was as he always is: humble, his English still a work in progress which finds him communicating thoughts with none of the persistent fluidity which makes him a KO machine.
Before the full on presser at MSG, held on the floor of the arena, underneath the Jumbotron which advertised the “Middleweight Madness” event, Golovkin chatted with media in a sit-down Q n A. Check out this video of the query session.
Jacobs also took questions from media, mainly NY-based and area fight scribes. Here is material from his session, where he came off as committed, relaxed, dialed in, confident but not delusional, likable and easy to root for.
Before the camera went on, I kidded with him about his attire.
Looking sharp, I said.
Gotta be the Best Dressed Boxer of 2016, I joshed. He actually won that award in the PBC sphere last year, he noted. This year, no ward was given. Here is the session:
Editor/publisher Michael Woods got addicted to boxing in 1990, when Buster Douglas shocked the world with his demolition of the thought to be impregnable Mike Tyson. The Brooklyn-based journalist Woods has covered the sport since then, for ESPN The Magazine, ESPN.com, ESPN New York, RING, and he was editor of TheSweetScience.com from 2007-2015. Woods is also an accomplished blow by blow and color man, having done work for Top Rank, DiBella Entertainment, EPIX, and for Facebook Fightnight Live since 2017. He now does work for PROBOX TV, the first truly global boxing network.
