We Are One Step Closer To Seeing Mayweather vs McGregor Getting Made

The ultra charismatic and superbly talented self promoter Conor McGregor, a UFC/MMA standout who stands as the most popular mixed martial artist on the planet, has announced that he has signed a contract with UFC to fight the most well known boxer on the planet, Floyd Mayweather.

The bout, date and site are unknown as with Mayweathers’ status regarding his stance on the possible tango; it would be contested using boxing rules.

McGregor, a 28 year old Irishman who brags about his skill set and advertises his wizradry in earning money, a la Mayweather, has a website devoted to news about him and the rest of the UFC/MMA world. Through that site, TheMacLife.com, he put out this statement:

“It is an honour to sign this record breaking deal alongside my partners Zuffa LLC, The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Paradigm Sports Management,” McGregor said. “The first, and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on. Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await Al Haymon and his boxer’s signature in the coming days.”

“Speaking last weekend, UFC president Dana White said that he was hoping to tie up a deal with McGregor before advancing negotiations with Mayweather. With McGregor’s deal now officially in place, the focus now rests on Mayweather and his adviser Al Haymon to conclude the final part of what is expected to be one of the most lucrative events in sporting history.”

Mayweather is right now in England, counting down to seeing his guy Gervonta Davis attempt his first title defense of the IBF 130 pound crown, against Brit Liam Walsh. Floyd has proclaimed the Baltimore boxer the future of the sport, but the “retired” legend would be the focus of media and fan attention both in the boxing and MMA world should he agree to terms to fight the UFCer.

I spoke to a source with a good handle of what could occur in the #Maygregor sphere. I asked about when and where and all that.

“I think it lands in Vegas for sure! But I'm not sure which date,” I was told. “Wouldn't shock me if they went against Canelo vs GGG and gambled on doing big numbers from the UFC fans and “casual” fans. Any real boxing fan is gonna be way more interested in Canelo/GGG (September 16, site TBD) which is a proper fight between two of the best AND most exciting pound for pound fighters in the world than they are Mayweather/McGregor which, let's be honest, isn't much more than a “Thunderlips/Rocky Balboa” type event.”

“BUT, can you imagine the event this fight will be? The publicity and media attention it will receive? Golovkin and Canelo don't have the personalities or trash talking of Mayweather or McGregor and unfortunately a lot of people love that shit!”
