Gleason’s Gets NY Post/Rosie Perez Shoutout

The First Lady of boxing, the possessor of the most famous living Brooklyn accent, Rosie Perez, is a friend to NYF.

She was kind enough to be the first guest on the Everlast-powered TALKBOX podcast and so we will always but always have a particular fondness for the actress/activist. She didn't say, “what are your numbers,” she said, “what time shall I call in.”

In the June 11 NY Post, Brooklyn Rosie gives a sweet shoutout to another Brooklyn-based institution we dig, the famed and fabled Gleason's Gym. Check it out:

Founder/editor Michael Woods got addicted to boxing in 1990, when Buster Douglas shocked the world with his demolition of the then-impregnable Mike Tyson. The Brooklyn-based journalist has covered the sport since for ESPN The Magazine,, Bad Left Hook and RING. His journalism career started with NY Newsday in 1999. Michael Woods is also an accomplished blow by blow and color man, having done work for Top Rank, DiBella Entertainment, EPIX, and for Facebook Fightnight Live, since 2017.
