The sailing has been smooth so far in Russia for Main Events boss Kathy Duva, as German Titov, a local, is heading up the promotion which is topped by a Sergey Kovalev 175 pound titles defense against Isaac Chilemba.
I asked Duva, the NJ based dealmaker who is working under the assumption that the Krusher wins this tangle and then has a November dance off with Andre Ward, to share some anecdotes of this endeavor.
“Nothing colorful, so far, for us,” she said. “We are all enjoying ourselves because the local promoter is responsible for actually running the show. Sergey and Isaac are both supremely confident. Their dynamic is interesting. At one moment they are staring each other down with so much intensity. Then they hug and joke with each other. But there was a moment when they were trying on gloves when I saw a kind of scary flash from Sergey.”
Both hitters made weight on Sunday, for a tussle which will screen on HBO.
“The fight should be fun,” Duva continued. “I am told that the arena has been sold out for quite some time. They will show the fight broadcast tomorrow night on big open air screens here and Ekaterinburg and in Sergey’s hometown of Cheyalbinsk for those who were not lucky enough to get a ticket.”
Here are the weights:
Sergey Kovalev: 174.6 lbs.
Isaac Chilemba: 174.8 lbs
