Ortiz Belted By Berto, Irate Fan

You got your moneys worth watching the second Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz fight, which unfolded Saturday night at StubHub in Cali, and on Fox TV, unless you had a bet on Ortiz or maybe didn't think he'd repeat a trend of capitulation.

Last time, in 2011, Ortiz got the nod, this time he got torched. The Kansas born fighter, a fan fave to those who enjoy his eccentric personality, hit the deck in the fourth, got up and then was stopped out. Berto basted him, the ref asked him if he wanted to continue, and his silence spoke to the heavens.

He'd pulled the plug when the going got tough in 2009 against Marcos Maidana and his chin was regarded as beyond iffy to most. He boxed well early, sending Berto to mat. But the Floridian woke up and got more aggressive and checked the Ortiz chin. And wrecked it….

The crowd gave it to Ortiz exiting and he was pelted with insults and even an empty pizza box. No one would be surprised if he didn't fight again or at least took a couple years off.
