Fonfara Might Fight Joe Smith

Long Islander Joe Smith is a young lion on a tear who is of the belief he can and will make the leap from local big shot to someone with wider appeal.

That can be proven if the rumor plays out which has light heavy ace Andrzej Fonfara, the bad ass Pole, taking on young gun Smith June 18 in Chicago, on a PBC on NBC card.

Joe DeGuardia of Star Boxing promotes Smith, and he had the kid fighting last Saturday, on the Island. The 26 year old fighter went to 21-1 with a stoppage over Fab Pena, in Huntington.

He debuted in 2009, lost his seventh fight and has been unblemished since. Fonfara, 28, is 28-3 and holds the WBC International 175 strap.

A step beyond this…winner is maybe likely to get a crack at WBC gold champ Adonis Stevenson.
