WBO super bantamweight champion Amanda Serrano (31-1-1, 23KOs) grinded her way to a 10-round unanimous decision over apex competitor Yazmin Rivas (35-10-1, 10KOs) at the Barclays Center. It was the first female world title event on Showtime since 2000.

Serrano pioneer's a new generation of female boxers in the same way Gina Carano did for Women's MMA nearly a decade ago. She proved that good looks and a compelling aura with talent can triumph at the box office in a male dominated industry.

Before she became a movie star, Carano was a surrogate mother to the irascible presence of wildly successful Ronda Rousey. We know Ronda also became a star of the big screen. Her fall coincides with the push to find a charismatic superstar who can transcend Women's Boxing, as Ronda did Women's MMA.

A diamond out of the rough long overlooked, Amanda Serrano might have ‘next'.

Lou DiBella and Showtime Executive VP Stephen Espinoza were probably hoping for something along the lines of sensational- but that came from the determined effort of former WBC champ Rivas,  who, when combined with Amanda's relentless attacking style, made good for Women's Boxing in a punishing bout.

In the areas of offense, defense, ring generalship and effective aggressiveness, Serrano compares around evenly with the world's best.

But Amanda's great balance and cold-blooded desire; placed on top of consistent combination punching and a bag of skill intangibles, stand apart from any other female boxer in the game.

“The Real Deal” fights like an angry Barbie version of Evander Holyfield. Showtime not only has a winner– but so does the boxing world.
