Brooklyner Zab Judah suffered brain trauma in his last bout, which unfolded on June 6 versus Cletus Seldin at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. The ultra vet battled hard against the 32 year old Seldin, and was stopped out, in round 11, as the Long Island based 140 pound contender, pressed him hard.
Later, a spell after the scrap ended, we got word that Judah was taken to an area hospital. He suffered a brain bleed, and had surgery, but his fortune was fine. After a couple days, the boxer, a former champ at 140 and 147, was released. He’s out and about today, walking and talking. But he’s also gearing up for another battle, it looks like. TMZ dropped a story which lays out groundwork which brings lawyers into the mix.
Judah and company want answers, wants result from PED testing from the Seldin-Judah fight, because, it is implied, to those in the know, Seldin has tested positive before.
Suspicion, it seems, lingers…
From the TMZ story:“Judah’s attorney wants to be clear that he is making “no formal accusations of misconduct” … but rather doing their due diligence in the “investigatory stage.” In a statement Judah’s attorney says, “To date, our firm contacted the Oneida Gaming Commission as well as the promoter of the fight to obtain the results of the pre-fight urine drug screening. No results have been provided to the Judah camp as of yet.”
Regarding testing for the bout in question: “It is the policy of the Oneida Indian Nation Athletic Commission to conduct pre and post fight drug tests for all championship bouts. This is a 10 panel test that detects performance enhancing drugs as well as illegal substances,” said Daniel J. Gustafson, the Executive Director of the Oneida Indian Nation Athletic Commission.
Joe DeGuardia put together the Seldin vs Judah fight, which was for the NABA super lightweight crown, and has Seldin under his promotional umbrella.
He spoke after Seldin’s June 2017 PED positive. “Cletus has had testosterone therapy,” DeGuardia said then. “It’s not like he’s trying to hide anything or gain an unfair advantage. He wrote it on the sheet when VADA came to test him.”
I requested a response from Seldin, and asked DeGuardia if he knew of the TMZ story, and will update the story as needed.
