Kevin Owens is currently set to challenge CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship on the August 21, 2026 edition of WWE SmackDown.
Owens became the #1 contender for the title at WWE SummerSlam when he defeated Sami Zayn, Gunther, and Finn Balor. Owens announced that he’ll have his World Title match in Toronto against Punk.
The bout takes place tonight, and many fans are hoping Owens wins here.
Kevin Owens Hasn’t Won A World Title In Almost A Decade
The last time Kevin Owens was a World Champion in WWE was back in 2017. He won the title from Seth Rollins, and later lost it to Goldberg at Fastlane.
Owens was originally scheduled to defend the belt against Chris Jericho at WrestleMania that year, but the Goldberg loss didn’t let this happen. He’s got another opportunity to be a World Champion again in the promotion, and the company should let him have this moment.

Kevin Owens’ Parents Will Be Attending Tonight’s SmackDown
During an interview with Faces Magazine, The Prizefighter said that his family will be closely watching his World Title Match against Punk from ringside.
“Also, my parents will get to be there, my family will get to be there and that wouldn’t have been the case if the match happened somewhere else, because my mom, through her health issues over the last several years, her ability to fly and go to shows that are far away, it’s just not the case anymore. But Toronto, it’s a manageable drive from Montreal. So, my parents will be able to be there.”
Owens also mentioned that his family couldn’t watch his last World Title victory live from the arena.
“There was awhile where I didn’t know if my parents would ever get to see me in the ring again. And now, they’re going to get to see it, and it’s a big match, and it’s potentially a match where I could win the Undisputed World Title in front of them, which, when I won the Universal Title, my wife, my kids, my parents, they were all watching on TV, but they weren’t there live.“
