Santos Escobar recalls a conversation with Nick Khan, where the WWE President personally apologized to him for how the company treated his on-screen character.

For those who don’t know, Santos Escobar originally joined WWE in 2019 as El Hijo del Fantasma. He made his NXT debut a few months later and ultimately joined the main roster in October 2022.

He later joined LWO (Latino World Order), and people expected a big push from WWE for him. Things didn’t pan out this way, and Escobar left WWE briefly after letting his contract expire in October 2025. But just a day later, it was announced that he had re-signed with the company.

Escobar recently recalled a conversation he had with Nick Khan around that time.

Santos Escobar Recalls Conversation With Nick Khan In 2025

During a recent interview with TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Santos Escobar opened up about his WWE release. Escobar said he wasn’t expecting to be cut because other people had told him he’d never be out of a job.

During the conversation, Escobar recalled talking to Nick Khan after choosing to let his WWE contract run out in 2025.

“If you remember, I let my contract expire in October. I was ready to part ways and see what was out there. Nick Khan called me, himself, he apologized for the way they had treated my character, not myself, my character. And he said ‘We’re going to do it right, we’re going to do things right. I want to give you anything you need to thrive, to prosper and I’ll sit down with Triple H. We’ll get things squared and we’ll get going.’”

Escobar says this was one of the reasons he re-signed with WWE at that time. It’s also why he wasn’t expecting to be released by them earlier this year.

“That’s the reason I re-signed back then. So, I had no reason to believe this was going to end any time soon, I hadn’t even started my run… I was a free agent at midnight and I got the call the next day I think around 1 or 2pm. They wanted me back, so I had no reason to believe this was coming.”

At the time Escobar was released, he was recovering from his surgeries after a triceps injury.

Following his WWE release, Escobar posted a message where he said, “Watch me, Paul and Nick.” He was, of course, referring to Triple H (Paul Levesque) and Nick Khan here. It is currently unknown where Escobar will end up next.
