At this year’s WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes faced Randy Orton in a singles match. This was one of the most anticipated matches for this year’s WrestleMania, but WWE botched its build with the inclusion of Pat McAfee in the storyline.
Nevertheless, the match took place at WrestleMania, where Randy Orton turned on McAfee. He also lost to Rhodes and later hit him with the punt kick. This was the spot that injured Rhodes, and fans could later see his eyes get swollen.
Cody Rhodes Talks About His Orbital Fracture Injury

Cody Rhodes discussed his WrestleMania 42 injury with Chris Van Vliet on Insight. He said it was an orbital fracture, and that it was nobody’s fault but his own. Rhodes also said that the injury slowed down his work.
“I think we skated by with a little bit of an orbital fracture, and that’s not on anyone’s fault but my own. It was bad. I think we skated by a little bit of an orbital fracture, and I think I am mad at myself for doing so because it’s affected my work since, super slowed down.”
When asked if his peripheral vision was affected, Rhodes said:
“Yeah, just to a degree, to a little bit, and I feel like that’s you can’t go out there QB 1 and saying you’re in your prime, and you’re the best you’ve ever been if you’re dealing with something that’s a bit of a hindrance like that, but at this point we’re out the woods. I got through it. I showed up the next night. I am toxic as can be when it comes to physical stuff. Toxic as can be. I can go. Tape it up. I can go.”
Rhodes didn’t really miss much television time despite the injury. He made his in-ring return a few weeks later on the May 1 edition of WWE SmackDown, defeating Ricky Saints.
