Two boxers who are looking to bounce back from recent defeats are meeting in the ring this weekend — and our Diaz vs Duarte purse will prove that they're being paid well to do so.
The prospective Diaz vs Duarte prize money is also deserved, because these two fighters have squared off against some of the world's best in order to make it this far.
But after earning their respective boxing payouts, only one of them will emerge with a paycheck AND a win.
Boxing Prize Money: What Will Diaz vs Duarte Be Paid This Weekend?
JoJo Diaz Purse
Joseph “JoJo” Diaz has had a rough stretch of late. The former top prospect has now lost four of his last five fights, after a suffering an upset defeat by decision against Jesus Perez in February.
Yet, while his career appears to be headed down the wrong path, the Diaz vs Duarte purse that Diaz is securing is still going to be respectable.
It has been reported by multiple sources that Diaz earned $450,000 in boxing prize money for his fight against William Zepeda in October 2022. Diaz lost via decision in that fight, suffered another loss against Mercito Gesta after that, defeated Jerry Perez, then received his most recent loss to Perez.
Despite this string of losses, there's no reason to believe that Diaz will be earning much less for fighting Duarte.
Therefore, we believe that JoJo Diaz will be earning $450,000 for fighting against Oscar Duarte this weekend.
While Duarte didn't end up winning that fight, he put up a solid performance, and proved that he deserves to be fighting the world's top 140-pound fighters.
It has been reported that Duarte earned about $500,000 for that fight against Garcia. This was surely the biggest payday of Duarte's life.
Yet, while JoJo Diaz is a respectable name in the boxing world, he has nowhere the fame of Ryan Garcia. For that reason, there's no way that the Diaz vs Duarte purse will match up to what Duarte made against Garcia.
Therefore, we believe that Oscar Duarte will earn $400,000 for fighting against JoJo Diaz this weekend.
While this can't match up to the Garcia payout, it's still a lot of money.
Duarte Was Once Homeless?
Duarte is surely thankful for these two consecutive big boxing payouts that he will have received after this weekend.
In fact, it was reported by DraftKings in December 2023 that when Duarte took home a guaranteed boxing payout of $20,000 after he fought his first fight with Golden Boy Promotions in June 2022, he was extremely grateful for the money, because he was homeless at the time.
Rest assured that Duarte is homeless no longer. Although this is just further proof that, before these boxers ascend to the biggest stage, they're barely paid enough money to keep their life afloat.
This is yet another reason why these warriors deserve immense amounts of respect.
