There is one more exciting bout on that unbelievable card in Vegas this weekend as Julio Cesar Martinez defends his WBC Flyweight belt against Angelino Cordova. Here is everything we know about the Martinez vs Cordova purse.

Boxing Fighter Pay: What Will Martinez vs Cordova Be Paid?

Martinez and Cordova are two outstanding boxers who had no luck growing up and it cost them the big money in the sport. The facts are that the heavier the weight class, the more money organizations pay, and these two are fighting among the lightest.

Julio Cesar Martinez began his professional career in 2015 and shockingly, he lost his debut. Since then, he has never lost at his natural weight class and has been the WBC Flyweight champion since 2019. This will be his 7th defense of the title.

Martinez is one of the rare boxers that are not afraid of a new challenge and he tried to move up to super flyweight in 2022. Unfortunately, he suffered his second career defeat against Roman Gonzalez and is now fighting at flyweight again. And his fights rarely fail to entertain.

This one should be no different although there are levels to boxing. On paper, Angelino Cordova doesn’t have the experience to be considered a threat but there is always a chance. He began his professional career in 2017 but only stepped out of his comfort zone in 2022.

Before that, he only fought in his home country of Venezuela. However, since then, he managed to win the WBO Latiny Light Flyweight and WBO International Flyweight titles, beating Axel Aragon Vega and Angel Acosta. It is fair to say that this will be his biggest fight while for Martinez, it hardly ranks among his hardest challenges.

As the defending champion, Martinez is undoubtedly going to get the bigger cut from the Martinez vs Cordova purse. We predict a 65/35 split based on the fact that Cordova is not yet such an attractive name in the sport.

Although the data on their previous earnings is limited, we found some information about Martinez’s recent purses. For example, he was supposed to fight McWilliams Arroyo for the second time in 2023 and although it never happened, he was promised 201,825 as a guaranteed purse.

Going even further back to the time he tried his luck at super flyweight, he earned $250,000 as a guaranteed purse against Roman Gonzalez.

With this said, we expect his guaranteed salary to be at least $250,000 for this bout. In turn, we expect his opponent to earn around $100,000. Overall, the Martinez vs Cordova purse will not even be close to that of the other fights on this card.

For example, we already discussed the expected prize money of the better-known fighters like Tim Tszyu. The expectations are for record-breaking figures, millions of dollars. At the same time, Martinez and Cordova will also fight for a world title. A bit sad if you ask us.
