Will Heather Hardy Stick To MMA, After June 14 Bellator Bout, Or Go Back To Boxing?

Heather Hardy steps into a cage to fight on June 14, taking part in her fourth MMA match, at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, for the Bellator promotion. She fought her last boxing match–er, her most recent, not her LAST–Oct. 27, 2018, at the MSG Theater, on HBO, against Shelly Vincent.

We chatted with Hardy (22-0 in boxing, 2-1 in MMA;, age 37, a DUMBO, Brooklyn resident on the Everlast “Talkbox” podcast, and I asked where she stood. Is she now married to MMA…or what about that title belt she snagged in October, will that go by the wayside?

“I’m gonna have to defend my WBO featherweight title, so I’m sure that will happen some point in the fall. I won’t be ready to box again until, likely, early to mid fall, if that’s what’s gonna happen. But I’m actually having a lot of fun in MMA. The opportunities are there, and they’re ready to take me on full time, so we’ll see what happens,” she told us.

And more from Hardy—a Twitter follower asked if she’d be up for fighting in the UK? “I would fight anywhere, I go where the money is,” she answered. “I fight so much in NY, people always ask me, why NY, I sell a lot of tickets here. It makes sense for me to fight here. Who wouldn’t want to fight at Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center?”

OK, anyone on her boxing radar? She said the WBO has asked for a Hardy versus Amanda Serrano bout…and there’s been chatter about Heather going up in weight to battle Katie Taylor…but a fight with Canadian Jelena Myrdjenovich appeals to her. The fight has to make sense, and dollars, and be of impact, and if not, she says, she will just stick to the MMA.
