WBA Welterweight World Champion and Las Vegas-native Rolly Romero attended John S. Park Elementary School in a neighborhood just north and east of the Las Vegas Strip.
The distance from Park Elementary School to the T-Mobile Arena is less than five miles, but it represented a long road that must have seemed barely imaginable to the future world champion, who is now seen by millions of boxing fans worldwide as a professional athlete.
Fast forward to Friday, when Romero demonstrated his Panther Pride during a return visit to his former elementary school.
Romero held a back-to-school giveaway on Friday at his alma mater ahead of his world title showdown against two-division champion Teofimo Lopez taking place Saturday, August 22, headlining a PBC Pay-Per-View event available on DAZN and Prime Video from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Romero Gives Away Supplies To Students
Romero gave away backpacks, signed photos, and a limited number of fight-night tickets to the students at John S. Park Elementary School, which he attended as a child.
Romero expressed his gratitude for the great turnout from the students. “I had a great time today,” said Romero. “A lot more kids showed up than I thought. It really makes me feel good to know that I had an impact on a kid’s life.”
Romero patiently posed for photos, let students hold his WBA championship belt, and engaged several students in mock faceoffs.
Later, Romero described his experience on Friday.
“This means a lot to me. It’s really important to me to give back to exactly where I came from.
“I love giving to people. I give to people all the time. This means so much because this is where I came from. Knowing that I could inspire people here is everything to me.
“Boxing has given me a platform where I can help a lot of people. I love my city. It’s fitting that I’m back defending my title on August 22. I’m a hometown hero! We’re gonna have the place packed up on August 22. Any bit of support from the people in Las Vegas means the world to me.”

Romero was elevated to the full title after his upset victory over Ryan Garcia in May 2025.
