Last year, Andrade El Idolo made his return to All Elite Wrestling during the sixth-anniversary episode of AEW Dynamite. Andrade had just left WWE in September 2025. Initially, many people doubted how this run would turn out. But he’s exceeded everyone’s expectations with his work.
Andrade is the current AEW National Champion and has defended his title very frequently on AEW programming. He’s currently set to defend the belt against Tommaso Ciampa at AEW WrestleDream.
Ahead of the event, the wrestler had a chat with Renee Paquette on Close Up with Renee Paquette, where he talked about Tony Khan giving him a second opportunity with AEW.

Earlier in the conversation, Andrade talked about wanting to defend his title every week and being the best National Champion in the company’s history. He was then asked about his history of working for AEW and WWE in the past few years and how this experience was for him personally and professionally.
During the conversation, Andrade talked about his relationship with AEW and Tony Khan giving him a second opportunity.
“I always had a good relationship with AEW, so now in this second opportunity, Tony gave me this opportunity to go back to AEW. So and you say yes. Now is the moment to show who I am. How I need to pay Tony, I need to pay with my work in the ring. This is why I want to defend this title. This is why I am here. I want to help the people in the locker room. I want to stay close with the boys. I am here to help the company. They want the best for this company, they want the best for me. I want to represent this company very well. This is how I need to pay Tony for this second chance, second opportunity.”
His first run with AEW began back in 2021, before leaving in 2023. He later returned to WWE in 2024 and worked there for a year before departing.
