On Saturday night, in the UK, an up and coming star looks to put his name into the world title mix against a man who has tried and failed to win the gold on three occasions. A raucous home crowd will no doubt bring fight night to life.
We've got all the news and information ahead of the main event from England in our Dalton Smith vs Jose Zepeda Prediction.
Smith vs Zepeda Prediction
It really is an important fight for super lightweight Smith. His run so far has seen him capture British and Commonwealth titles.
Now though, he is stepping up in class to face a man with plenty of big names amongst his former opponents.
However, Zepeda has often come up short on his biggest nights. Will this be another? We'll tell all in our Smith vs Zepeda Prediction.
Dalton Smith Preview
There is no doubt that the man from Sheffield, fighting in his home city, is the coming man in the super lightweight division in this one. He has beaten most of his domestic rivals and will be looking to put the whole scene in his wing mirrors with a win this weekend.
Desire alone won’t win ‘Thunder’ the fight but there are other reasons the 27-year-old can feel confident in our Dalton Smith vs Jose Zepeda prediction.
The British 140 pounder turned professional in 2019 and he is undefeated since joining the paid ranks. Winning all 15 of his fights to date, with 11 coming by stoppage.
He won the British title in his 12th fight, ending proceedings early against Sam O’Maison. His first two defenses were won on points but most recently he stopped Sam Maxwell.
His undefeated streak and ability to stop his opponents has made him favorite for this one, despite his opponent’s experience.
Jose Zepeda Preview
There aren’t many fighters in boxing with the experience of Zepeda in big fights, certainly not ones who haven’t carried a world title at some point.
The American has earned the chance to be crowned champion of the world on three occasions, and lost every single one of them. Two of those have been at super lightweight, against Jose Carlos Ramirez and Regis Prograis. The first attempt was against another Brit, Terry Flanagan, at lightweight.
Those three fights account for most of his career losses, in fact the defeat to Richard Hitchins, his most recent bout last year, was his only loss not for a world title.
Despite that, he is the underdog for our Smith vs Zepeda prediction, even though he’s only been stopped twice in his whole career.
Dalton Smith vs Jose Zepeda Prediction: Thunder To Reign Against Chon
He may have the experience, but that also means he has far more miles in his legs, and for that reason, our Smith vs Zepeda prediction goes against ‘Chon.’
The American has been involved in 33 rounds across his three most recent fights, losing two of them and winning one, including the stoppage by Prograis in the 11th round.
Smith is heavy favorite on the Moneyline at -330, but where you find more value is our prediction that Smith will win by TKO/KO at +210.
To back that up we’ll also say that the fight won’t go the distance at +140, with the oddsmakers clearly thinking it will go the full 12 rounds.
Lastly we believe that Smith won’t finish things early but will eventually wear Zepeda’s 34-year-old legs down with the Brit to win in rounds 7-9 at +600
