Sergiy Derevyanchenko is back in New York as fight week begins for his career-defining fight with Gennady Golovkin, which will see the IBF and IBO titles on the line for the Eastern European natives this coming Saturday at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden.
Dereyvanchenko has spent the vast majority of the last 6 weeks in the Bay Area of California, training between the SNAC facility headed up by Victor Conte and Mike Bazzel’s Aloha Time Boxing Club under the tutelage of Andre Rozier and Gary Stark Sr.
Dereyvanchenko opened up about his preparations for the world middleweight title clash with Golovkin.
The Ukrainian said, “I have had a fantastic camp in California and I have to thank my trainers Andre Rozier and Gary Stark Sr, my conditioning coach Sergiy Koncheskyy Jr and Mike Bazzell and Victor Conte for allowing me to work at their excellent facilities.
“I have had some excellent sparring for this camp with the likes of Edgar Berlanga Jr and many other top-quality talents who have really pushed me and I am very appreciative of all the hard work they have put in with me. They have made me more than ready for the challenge of Golovkin.”
It’s Kazakhstan vs Ukraine, Golovkin at Madison Square Garden this Saturday in New York City as the pair of one-time amateur standouts from the Eastern bloc clash in what can only be seen as the ultimate crossroads fight. The stakes couldn’t be higher and Dereyvanchenko discussed his thoughts prior to the double world title showdown.
‘The Technician’ stated, “This is a massive fight for my career and I have to thank my manager Keith Connolly and my promoter Lou DiBella alongside GGG Promotions and Matchroom Boxing for making this amazing event happen.
“I still believe I am an undefeated fighter and I plan on showing that what my team has predicted will come to pass and I will become world middleweight champion this Saturday night.
“This is not going to be an easy fight. GGG is a fantastic fighter and I have the utmost of respect for him. This fight will likely be the toughest fight of my career but I believe I am more than ready for this moment and I plan on showing the world that Sergiy Dereyvanchenko is the next superstar and world champion to come out of Ukraine.”
