Jab Hook’s Predictions for Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles, January 13th, 2019 (Fox Sports 1/Fox Deportes): Jose “Bolivita” Uzcategui 28(23)-2 vs. Caleb “Sweethands” Plant 17(10)-0, fighting 12 rounds for Uzcategui’s IBF super middleweight title.
Jose Uzcategui stopped Andre Dirrell in their March 2018 rematch to win the “interim” IBF super middleweight title. James DeGale vacated the “real IBF belt” last July, and the IBF simply upgraded Jose Uzcategui to full-fledged “Champ”. (The boxing alphabet organizations are often difficult for Jab to take seriously.) But now we can witness2
Tall for a super middleweight with an impressive reach of 76.5 inches (194 cm), the 28 year old Venezuelan is a boxer-puncher with a tight defense and heavy hands. Ranked as the #3 super middleweight by Ring, “Bolivita” Uzcategui is looking to set up unification bout with a big win in LA.
Caleb Plant is a very good boxer. He won the 2011 National GoldenGloves Light Heavyweight Championship and was a 2012 Olympic alternate. But he wasted time until he turned pro in 2014, kept busy 2015-16 against low level opponents, but has only fought 3 times in the past 29 months. It’s been two and a half years since Plant’s last KO victory, and after a surgical repair of a left hand fracture early in 2018, “Sweethands” Plant is taking a big step up versus Uzcategui. Is he ready for this?
Jab Hook’s keys to victory:
Jose Uzcategui–
Establish the jab, and fight long.
Counter-punch using combinations, finish to the body.
Move forward, create pressure, but use a smart defense.
Take a few rounds to figure him out and let him get winded.
Dominate, but don’t force the KO.
Caleb Plant–
Use foot work, head movement and a tight defense to get in and out.
Work the body inside, and try to get him on the ropes.
Use feints, timing and accuracy to counteract his speed and power.
If you hurt him, jump on him and get the stoppage.
If nothing else works, just go to war.
This will be a violent affair in the square circle, and bombs will be dropped. There will be a dramatic finish that will help start the boxing momentum of 2019, as the fans enjoy a prizefight that will punctuate the beginning of the year. When “Bolivita” Uzcategui comes out strong at the 1st bell, Caleb Plant will have his “Sweethands” full. A courageous effort from Plant will the entertain the fans, but Uzcategui will be unimpressed.
Jab Hook picks Jose Uzcategui to beat Caleb Plant via TKO in the 8th round.
