IBO President Ed Levine Previews IBO Extravaganza This Weekend

The International Boxing Organisation has been a mainstay of professional boxing for over 20 years and has been an instrumental figure in the careers of many legendary figures of the sport in that period of time.

Fighters such as Ricky Hatton, Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Gennady Golovkin and more future Hall of Famers have held IBO titles for large parts of their careers.

This weekend sees an IBO extravaganza, with an unprecedented amount of fights featuring IBO titles, including what could turn out to be a fight of the year between the all-action pair of Jarrett Hurd and Julian Williams.

Ed Levine, the IBO boss,  discussed all of the fights this weekend, and the logic and reasoning behind the approach the International Boxing Organisation takes in the current unique climate that is the boxing business.

The Florida based Levine stated, “The IBO benefits two types of fighters, those on the rise to the top and those at the very top. Jarrett Hurd vs Julian Williams is a top of the line fight. It is the best fighting the best in the same way the IBO belt was contested when Erislandy Lara fought Jarrett Hurd. It's a tremendous fight and it will define for me who is the number one super welterweight out there and I believe the fight will live up to the hype.

“Also on the card in Fairfax, Virginia is the veteran Paulus Ambunda defending the IBO Super Bantamweight title against American Stephen Fulton. This is really a no-lose fight for both fighters as the winner will hold not just the world title but receive massive exposure to the boxing public.” 

Levine continued, opening up about some of the other title fights occurring this weekend, “I really am looking forward to the IBO Intercontinental title fight between Alexandru Marin and Luis Concepcion. Concepcion has been a fantastic servant to the sport of boxing and he is really trying to get back to the elite level. Marin is a fighter on the rise and he knows if he beats a great fighter in Concepcion this will elevate him towards world titles next.” 

The IBO also works heavily in many African regions, and generally in parts of the globe that don't create massive revenues from boxing. The long term IBO head honcho discussed the reasoning behind why the IBO takes this approach to boxing in different parts of the globe. 

Levine said, “We have a great IBO All Africa title fight this weekend in South Africa involving a fighter called Rowan Campbell, who is heavily touted as a future world star. We like to try to do our best to help fighters like Rowan get the step up they need in order to make it on a world scene. It could be said the IBO helps to support the implementation of the building blocks to fighters careers based on how good they are, not how much money they draw.”
