Canelo Alvarez Fighting Danny Jacobs May 4

Canelo Alvarez has a foe set for his next outing, which will come May 4, site TBA.

The Mexican hitter, who bashed Brit Rocky Fielding in December, will have a summertime session against Brooklyn boxer Danny Jacobs.

Jacobs, advised by Keith Connolly and Al Haymon, signed a three fight deal with DAZN, it was announced on Thursday. Canelo will put his WBC, and WBA and RING 160 crowns up for grabs against the New York boxer who boasts the IBF belt around his waist.

Canelo brings a 50-1-2 mark to the affair, and a cemented status as the No. 1 attraction and lead dog in the pugilism sphere. Jacobs owns a 35-2 mark and owns a sweet back story.

He faced down spinal cancer, which paralyzed him, and is a study in perseverance and class. He never gets ensnared in out of the ring dramas and has been rewarded with a sweet HBO deal, and now a DAZN contract.

Oscar has been crowing that “Pay Per View is dead,” and this fight, which would have been offered for a premium, will now allow him to crow with increased vigor. Eddie Hearn from England has been the promoter handling the lion’s share of delivering fare to the stream service.

There had been speculation as to what direction Canelo would go in; during fight week for Canelo vs Fielding, ODLH said no way, Jacobs isn’t in the mix to meet Canelo. The Mexican looking so strong at 168 opened up the field, and then, last week, Oscar took to social media to announce that he was directing executive Eric Gomez to negotiate terms for a third Canelo vs Gennady Golovkin match. Was that a bid to lower Jacobs’ ask? Who knows, I don’t…

So, to sum it up–the Canelo vs Jacobs match is one middleweight shoe to drop. It helps clarify the scene at 160, as we can now pencil in Jacobs on to the DAZN side of the street. LOS ANGELES (Jan. 17, 2019) – Boxing’s biggest star will take a step closer to becoming undisputed champion as Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) defends his WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Titles in a 12-round unification fight against IBF Middleweight World Champion Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (35-2, 29 KOs) during the celebratory weekend of Cinco de Mayo. The champion-vs.-champion event will take place Saturday, May 4, 2019 and will be streamed exclusively live on DAZN.

Canelo is a 28-year-old native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico who became the top man in the sport by facing the best competition and making the best fights for the fans. At 154 pounds, Canelo captured several world titles and defeated the likes of Austin “No Doubt” Trout, Sugar Shane Mosley, Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo, Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara and Liam “Beefy” Smith. However, Canelo scored his most significant victory yet at 160 pounds, where he defeated Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in their highly anticipated rematch in September 2018 and established himself as the WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion. Jacobs made several successful defenses, including a thunderous first-round knockout of Peter Quillin the following year. Despite losing to Gennady Golovkin in a very close fight in 2017, Jacobs has remained undefeated since his return, defeating former amateur champion and middleweight contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko to capture the IBF Middleweight World Championship.
