Broner Makes Tasteless “Shaking” Joke About Roach

It was the kind of cringe-worthy moment that had persons who heard it at the LA presser taking a beat, because they didn't think they just heard what they heard.

But they did, at the second Manny Pacquiao-Adrien Broner press conference, which ran in LA after a stop in NYC on Monday.

“I'm happy you're bringing Freddie back,” Broner said, while the fighters sat next to each other and answered queries. “Sheet…so we can get this thing shakin.”'

There was a pause and then laughter in the room, at the expense of Roach, who battles Parkinson's symptoms. Manny smiled, and it isn't clear if he knew what the implication was.

His face then turned more impassive, as people comprehended that the crack was at the least grounds for a karmic kickback, and quite possibly might lead to a bad-blood response from the trainer.

Roach has heard it before; in 2010 he was steamed when Brandon Rios and Robert Garcia were caught on tape guffawing at the trainers' symptoms.

The Broner crack didn't make it into the press release which summed up the LA hype-session….

MANNY PACQUIAO:

“This fight is going to be a good fight. I have to pass through him before fighting Floyd Mayweather. I want to prove to the boxing fans that Manny Pacquiao is still in the pack. You will see more fights with Manny Pacquiao here in the United States.

“He’s young and he’s fast – and he’s fast with his mouth. There will be more action in the ring – we know what the people want. It’s going to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a fight you will never forget.

“I continue my career as a boxer because boxing is my passion. When I hung up my gloves once, I felt sad not being in the ring and giving inspiration to people in the Philippines and boxing fans.”

On potentially fighting Floyd Mayweather again:

“I don’t think Adrien will agree with that, because I need to pass through him. This is not an easy fight.”

On working with Al Haymon:

“I have only good things to say about Top Rank – they helped me a lot. But I’m really thankful to be partnered with Al Haymon and have a chance to work with him.”

“[Broner’s] a funny guy. I think after his boxing career, he could have another career as a comedian. I don’t get upset about the jokes. I can’t help but laugh when I look at his face.”

Will the Mayweather rematch be next?

“I can’t give you an answer, but if you ask me, it would be good for me to have that fight.”
