Undeterred, he moved up to middleweight, outpointed Sergiy Derevyanchenko, and secured the WBC Interim title with a third-round KO of Juan Macias. A ninth-round TKO against Julian Williams solidified his reign as champion.

In his last fight against Julian Williams, Adames reportedly raked in $500k in guaranteed money. He also received 60% of the PPV cut, which brought in additional $800k.
