Look Out Berlanga!? Padraig McCrory Can Crack, Says Irish Prospect Tommy Hyde

Padraig who now? Nope, not gonna pretend I knew of  Mr McCrory when he got introed as foe to Edgar Berlanga on a Matchroom card from Florida, on DAZN.

So I asked around a bit.

Rising prospect Tommy Hyde, a genial pro out of Ireland like pop Gary, told me his thoughts. “I’ve never sparred Padraig but the talk in Irish boxing is that he has freakish power,” young Hyde told me. (Click here to read about Hyde’s start in the sport.)

“He has a great story, getting back into boxing in his late 20s and now getting on to the big stage against Berlanga. It’s a step up for McCrory so it’s going to be interesting to see how good he is, of course I’m rocking with the Irish man to cause the upset!”

And what of his own path to greater prominence and pay? “I’m fighting on March 16th for the Celtic Title in the Fox Theater in Redwood City against fellow Irishman and reigning Celtic champion Craig McCarthy, he has a 10-1 record. He’s a southpaw, the first I’ll fight as a pro. He lives an hour from me at home so there’s nice hype about it in Ireland. McCarthy has some domestic wins so it’s a step up for me on paper but a fight I think will bring the best out of me.”

Hyde may already be on your watch list….but should be now. He reps the sport as you’d want it. And he’s been right with underdog pics with me before.
