Mike Perry had a terrible week after dislocating his left shoulder at Duel Arena 1 in Orlando. Perry was supposed to fight Dillon Danis, but Danis pulled out just two days before the event. Brandon Jenkins stepped in as a late replacement.

Because of the last-minute change, Perry took a 50 percent pay cut to stay on the card, leaving him little time to prepare for a new opponent. The fight ended with Perry suffering a severe injury. He has since shared shocking before-and-after X-rays of his shoulder online and now faces a long recovery.

The fight ended almost as soon as it started. Early in the first round, Perry threw a heavy overhand right. As he missed, his left shoulder violently popped out of its socket. The injury completely compromised Perry, leaving him unable to defend himself or throw punches with his lead hand.

Jenkins capitalized on the injury, landing a hard body kick before dropping Perry and finishing the fight with ground-and-pound. The referee stopped the bout just 90 seconds into the opening round.

The X-ray images showed the extent of the damage. The top image shows the ball of the shoulder joint sitting completely outside the socket. The bottom one was taken after surgery, showing the joint seated back in place. ‘The King of Violence’ shared those images on his Instagram story, writing, “Top is when dislocated and the bottom is after.”

Meanwhile, the Danis fight remains unfinished business, and Perry says he intends to return. Whether he can rebuild patiently, rather than rushing back the way he has before, will shape the next chapter of his career.

Mike Perry Puts His Own Philosophy to the Test

This is not Perry’s first time dealing with a major injury. Back in 2019, he suffered a shattered nose and facial fractures against Vicente Luque. He needed immediate reconstruction surgery, but the bones healed fast enough for him to fight again just four months later.

His current shoulder injury is completely different. Bones heal relatively quickly, but a dislocated joint involves torn ligaments and tendons. It takes a much slower process to get that baseline strength and movement back. Many assume his recovery might take at least a year to heal properly.

However, until now, Perry frequently talked about the importance of taking care of his health to build a solid MMA career. Recently, sharing his philosophy online, he wrote, “Health is wealth. The MMA lifestyle taking care of the body, mind and spirit. The gym helps the process of growing your strength, but strength is needed in other areas of life and should be exercised everywhere we go. Organize, be consistent, more recovery and stretching. Taking knowledge into my future endeavors. More to work for, more work to do.”

He will now need to follow that exact mindset to beat the long recovery times seen by other fighters like Jan Blachowicz and Brad Tavares, who both spent over half a year recovering from similar shoulder surgeries.
