NO SCALE FAIL: Canelo and Chavez Jr Make Weight in Vegas

PPV is best left to stars appealing to Hispanic buyers, one can argue, and one needs a strong B side to elevate the buy rate.

Good news, all the drama will be saved, it looks like, for fight night, tomorrow, Saturday at T-Mobile in Las Vegas, and on HBO PPV.

Canelo Alvarez, the 26 year old legend in the making, and 31 year old Julio Cesar Chavez Jr both made the weight, contracted to 164 1/2 or less, on Friday in Vegas.

Canelo was 164 on the old school weighted scale.

Junior, the wild card in this deal, posted a social media pic last night which showed him to be thisclose (165.2) to making the limit. He was also 164.

Chavez took off the sunglasses when he got up to the stage, and he looked reasonably energized as he waved to fans. There were plenty of Junior rooters in the joint, this was no only Canelo haven. The red head strode to the stage as Michael Buffer called out his name. He smiled and gave a thumbs up to fans who showered him with praise.

His his people breathed heavy relief, as whoever missed weight would be docked one million dollars per pound over.

Junior last weighed this little back in 2012, when he was fighting Sergio Martinez, and was 158. This time he hired Memo Heredia, a supplement and weight loss guru with a checkered past.
