Walsh vs Ortiz Prediction: A Walk in the Park for ‘King’

UFC's favorite boxer, Callum Walsh, returns to the ring this weekend to face Carlos Ortiz. The fight will headline the Hollywood Fight Nights card and will include the WBC Continental Americas Super Welterweight Title on the line. Here is our Walsh vs Ortiz prediction.

Walsh vs Ortiz Prediction: Another Convenient Fight for Walsh

Callum Walsh Preview

Callum Walsh is the current holder of the belt we mentioned at the start after he won it in March this year against 38-year-old Daurel Yeleussinov.

Before that, the Irishman held the WBC USA Silver Super Welterweight title and carried out several defenses. His most recent outings include a knockout over Carlos Johnson, a knockout over Juan Jose Velasco, and then a decision win over Ismael Villarreal.

As an amateur, Walsh won six national titles and a European gold medal, and he has been training since the age of six. The now 23-year-old Walsh has ten wins (eight by knockout) and zero losses as a professional. But obviously, he has not faced any considerable opposition to date.

Very few boxers in history have enjoyed such attention and support early in their careers as Callum Walsh. Coincidentally, Walsh began training with Freddie Roach while his manager is one of the sport's most seasoned veterans, Tom Loeffler.

With their help, Walsh reached out to Dana White and earned himself a contract with the UFC, despite being a boxer. Every fight he has is nowadays being streamed live on UFC Fight Pass, and his countryman Conor McGregor is one of his sponsors.

In other words, Walsh has his boxing path mapped out and all he's expected to do is win. With such experienced people behind him, it is no wonder that he gets only opponents that are suitable for him. Before his fight against Yeleussinov, he said that he had no idea who his opponent was and he didn't care.

So far, Walsh hasn't faced a challenge and Friday's bout isn't expected to be much different. We probably won't surprise you with our Walsh vs Ortiz prediction.

Carlos Ortiz Preview

Carlos “Ali” Ortiz is a 39-year-old boxer from Mexico and despite his nickname, he is nothing like the original. Already from his age, it becomes clear that this was another clever move from Walsh's team. Another boxer who is close to retirement.

Ortiz turned pro when he was 28 years old and has hardly been successful. His professional record is 14-5-0 and the only notable fact is his 100% KO rate.

Walsh is still a nobody in terms of boxing achievements and yet, he is probably the most significant opponent in Ortiz's career. There is almost nothing notable to be said about Ortiz ahead of this bout.

He is on a winning streak after beating Brian Mora Munoz, Evan Sanchez, and Octavio Ochoa. But Munoz has a 4-6-3 record and Ochoa is 2-9-0. That's amateur-level boxing, so Ortiz hasn't really done much in recent years, apart from crushing Sanchez's dreams. Before this win streak, he lost four fights in a row.

Our Callum Walsh vs Carlos Ortiz Prediction: There will be a Knockout

Whichever way we analyze, whichever angle we look from, we can't bet against Callum Walsh. Aside from the hype surrounding his career, the youngster is extremely talented and there's no way he won't handle the mediocre veteran.

This will be a good day for both fighters. Walsh will give fans a show and probably a knockout. Ortiz will lose but will get a solid purse. It was already announced that the entire venue had been sold out.

Ortiz will give it his best shot but he probably already knows that he will lose. The odds are against him and we have to pick the knockout win for our final Walsh vs Ortiz prediction.
