Ryan Garcia Throws Hard Darts At Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis

It’s a month away, and Ryan Garcia will now have even more of an impetus to make maximum impact when he faces off with Luke Campbell on Dec. 5, on DAZN.

The 22 year old Cali boxer spoke to the SiriusXM duo, Ak and Barak, and the New Yorkers grilled him on what is going on in his life and what he has coming up. “It’s been good energy in the gym,” the 20-0 (17 KOs) fighter said.

“Canelo is involving himself much more this camp for me than others. He really wants me to shine,” he continued, referring to his placement with trainer Eddy Reynoso, the tutor for Canelo Alvarez, who announced that he’s parted ways with Golden Boy after a 12 year run.

“Canelo and I don’t spar but we mess around a bit … he’s too big for me to seriously spar,” the 135 pounder said, making sense to hardcores, but saying something that more casual fans might not assume.

He was asked about some others in and around his weight class, as well. Like Devin Haney, who fights Saturday, Nov. 7, in Florida, against Yuriorkis Gamboa, on DAZN. “Devin Haney has done nothing special in his career,” young Ryan shared on the satellite radio hit. “When he wins he doesn’t blow anyone away. He’s fighting people he should beat quickly but he doesn’t do it.”

Ryan is also not impressed with Haney’s outside the ring game. “Devin looks desperate when he talks about me … he needs to focus on the division,” Garcia said. “I will handle Devin Haney eventually. He’s on the list along with Gervonta Davis and everyone else.”

And what about that Teofimo Lopez, who impressed most so mightily with the way he handled Vasiliy Lomachenko on Oct. 7. “Teofimo Lopez is not the king of the lightweight division,” Garcia asserted. “When the time comes for us to fight it will be a great fight … but he needs me. No matter who has the belts, they need me. I don’t listen to social media.”

He didn’t spare Gervonta Davis from a few barbs, either. “Ever since Gervonta talked about my parents, I’ve had my eye on him,” Garcia told the interviewers. “He will be handled. And Tank was supposed to KO Leo. I thought it was going to come sooner. If I fight Tank, I’ll stay calm. Leo didn’t stay calm – the pressure was too much for him. I don’t want to give my gameplan away but I’m going to use my distance to beat and KO Tank if we fight. I bring the fans. I have everyone watching. Once I get what I want in negotiations, we can go from there.”

For the last two years, Garcia has sounded a different tone. Roughly around the time he became a father for the first time…

..he started talking tougher, but it seems grounded, usually, in reality more than before. Perhaps it coincided with him getting together with Reynoso, and getting more comfortable with some of the tricks of the trade, and, in fact, basic building blocks, that he’s been shown.
