No Manicures, No Clothes Shopping, Heather Hardy TOTALLY Into Camp And Friday Fight

The coaches are happy but the stomach is angry, barking for more food.

No, Heather Hardy barks (silently, lest people think she’s gone off the deep edge) at her belly, no more food for you.

Cooperate, make weight Thursday, she tells her gut telepathically, and then you’ll get taken care of.

“Camp is coming to a close and my coaches are happy with what they see me instintinctively starting to do,” the 36 year old hitter, a Brooklyn native and resident, told NYFights, as the days tick down to her Friday night clash in CT at Mohegan Sun, on a Bellator MMA card topped by a Matt Mitrione v Roy Nelson heavyweight rumble.

“Just got that water weight to shed off and we are ready to go!”

Hardy is always ready with a good anecdote, as she isn’t one to get into a gameface mode and be a bear to any and all. But this time around, there is an extra air of seriousness in the air she breathes. “This has been a business only camp. I’m very focused on putting my career back into a win streak and this is where I need to start.” Then, a flash a of Hardy humor: “Haven’t even gotten my hair done or a pedicure, or shopped for new outfits! I’m so focused and cramming all my extra minutes into training!”

..UFC expats who told me they are enjoying the hell out of fighting under the Bellator umbrella. Nelson is 1-0 against Mitrione, the ex NFLer, but that win came back in 2012, and he’s betting his experience, his growth from years of campaigning, will get him to 1-1. Nelson likes his chances, but isn’t assuming what worked before necessarily will work Friday. The men sat five feet from each other at a Monday lunch and shared chatter as we talked the fight game, the differences between UFC and Bellator, and how to kickstart the economy so everyone can share in the boom.
