Kevin Cunningham is a boxing lifer and that’s why he was in Philly Friday night, working the show at 2300 Arena, the one put together by Kings Promotions, which ran on Facebook Fightnight Live.
Cunningham cornered welter David Grayton, who shrugged off three knockdowns at the hands of Terell Williams, in separate rounds, and came back to put Williams into late danger. The surge faded out, but Grayton won props from Cunningham for his heart. From me too, as I called the action, with Marc Abrams on color, for FBFNL.
“It was a hard fought 10 round fight against an undefeated opponent,” said Cunningham of the Grayton effort.
“DayDay” got caught early in the fight so it took him a few rounds to recover. I thought he finished strong winning rounds 7, 8 and 9 but it wasn’t enough.”
Next up for Cunningham, the ex St Louis cop, now living and running a fight camp in Florida, Montana Love September 29th and Erickson Lubin October 13th.
Oh, and while we got him, his prediction for Canelo v GGG?
“Canelo by decision,” Cunningham said.
