Shakur Stevenson looked to go to 2-0 at MSG, the big room, on Saturday night, on a Top Rank promotion, and things got off to a good start when his walkout music he wanted, Where The Hood At, by DMX, came on.
The current fighting pride of Newark, NJ took on Carlos Suarez, out of Argentina, and got right to work in this featherweight contest.
Newark was in the house, as a goodly portion of the fans in the joint seemed to be pro Shakur. The young lefty, age 19, stalked and popped and looked to get the man out early. Down Suarez went, and he got up, but the ref said no mas. The shot: a left hand as the loser was coming forward. His legs were jello, shot.
The end: 2:35 of the first.
Shakur said that left is his money shot, and he would have liked it to go longer, he said after, to give fans more bang for the bucks, but c’est la vie. The dimples popped and he had the people jazzed in the arena, for sure.
