His Excellency Makes the Save, Here’s Why Team Usyk Is Happier Now

Egis Klimas admits he’s still leery of Tyson Fury, of the Gypsy King’s propensity and ability to mess with plans. But that anxiety, he told NYF, has been minimized, by Saudi boxing boss Turki Alalshikh.

Turki told Ariel Helwani on Saturday afternoon that a new date has been made for the Fury-Usyk faceoff: May 18.

That gives the 35 year old Fury three months, so docs decided that is enough time to let the eye heal.

Is Team Usyk down with that, I asked Klimas, or are they still worried that another snafu occurs?

“His Excellency guaranteed the date,” Klimas explained.

Basically, Usyk gets his purse for the fight, even if a Fury-fueled postponement were to pop up again? “Yes, that is what we agreed on,” Klimas told NYF.

So, it would make sense that Team Usyk now has a measure of reassurance in them, because they know prep work will be rewarded, even if Fury machinations or fate impacts the tussle.

They have insurance, in the form of an assurance.

His Excellency seems to have a knack for this, for smoothing out rough spots and maintaining a degree of order, within a space which features drama all too often.
