Boxing At Barclays April 16

Boxing is back in Brooklyn April 16, when possible future star Errol Spence gets his first high profile feature slot, against Long Islander Chris Algieri, who seeks to get over the hump and get that win that gets him a welterweight title shot.

Lou Dibella will promote the card. He told me that he’s enthused to see how “top prospect” Spence does against a guy who almost beat Amir Khan. “Algieri has to see this as a winnable fight. And Glowacki is coming off a fight of the year, he’s fighting against Cunningham, who’s at his best weight, with a chip on his shoulder after the Tarver fight. Plus, Marcus Browne against a guy who is a step up…it is a great card.”

The promoter is also juggling, looking to land in May a Deontay Wilder-Alexander Povetkin tangle. “It’s up to the Russians still. I hope we get it finished, don’t go to purse bid.”
