Jab Hook’s Predictions for StageWorks, Shreveport, Louisiana, January 11th, 2019 (Showtime): Devin “The Dream” Haney vs. Xolisani “Novema the Wasp” Ndongeni, undefeated lightweights fighting in a 10 round prizefight.
“Novema” is a popular boxer and the #2 lightweight in South African. The former IBO world lightweight title-holder has a his own song for the ring walk-ins and is a boxing celebrity back home, where he has fought all his bouts. With very fast hands and an awkward style, this is his first time under the big lights in the USA. Can Ndongeni seize the moment and upstage “The Dream”?
Jab Hook’s keys to victory:
Devin Haney-
Establish the jab and throw combinations.
Box with a tight defense, avoid wild exchanges.
Take your time, and make “Novema” pay for his mistakes.
Don’t get greedy.
Xolisani Ndongeni-
Come out strong and get his respect in the 1st round.
Use footwork and creative angles to get in and out of range.
Disrupt Haney’s rhythm, smother his work, and counter-punch.
Make it ugly, provoke him, and show him what a real African warrior is.
Expect a tense, exciting bout with some wild punches, macho games, maybe a foul, and probably a knockdown or two. Devin Haney will gain valuable experience and make a great impression, but only if boxes smartly. Win or lose, Xolisani Ndongeni will put on a show and maybe get some more good bouts in 2019.
Jab picks Haney to win by clear unanimous decision over Ndongeni.
