Long Islander Rainone Happy To Be on Coliseum Card

Gerry Cooney and me talked a bit about how boxing is coming back to Long Island on TALKBOX this week and what a charge that will give area fight fans.

And fighters!

Like Tommy Rainone; the Islander is beyond pumped to be added to the July 15 Nassau Coliseum card topped by a Sean Monaghan vs Marcus Browne light heavy hoedown.

“It looks like I’m fighting that guy Jones who fought in Brooklyn last week,” said the slickster Rainone. He refers to 14-9 Brian Jones, who hung tough in losing a UD8 to Irishman Noel Murphy on a Lou Dibella Brooklyn card topped by Heather Hardy.

The 26-7-1 Rainone, age 37, could perhaps snag a scrap against Murphy in the near future. But right now, he’s jazzed to dance for his fan club.

And, has he scouted Jones yet?

“Took a peek, and I will look a little more but I worry about me,” Rainone said. “I’m supposed to beat this guy and that’s what’s gonna happen. He is a busy guy, fights often, so he’s in shape and has fought tough. Only stopped once so he’s will over skill, awkward and tough. Just gotta be the best version of me and I’ll do what I want in there.”

And to do it so close to home…

“Blessed and humbled for life once again my man,” the Plainview resident said. “Nothing is trivial!”
