Crawford and Diaz Make Weight

on

Some people think Terence Crawford will have his typical outing, have his way, and not get pushed hard by Felix Diaz tomorrow. Others think Diaz could be the best, on paper, that the Nebraskan currently acing the board at 140  has faced as a pro.

Time is the only tale teller, now. We need to see the thing play out in an MSG ring Saturday, and on HBO, to see who has their fingers on this pulse. Me, I think Crawford is among the very best at getting angles, and finding openings, and mixing speed of foot and hand.

Diaz, though, he deserved a win against Lamont Peterson, who is by no means a bum. Peterson is a B plus fighter in this era. Crawford is an A, though. However, there are still folks who think he gets too much credit for a resume that isn’t that thick. They want him fighting the beasts at 147, or inviting Lomachenko to dance, or seeing if Mikey Garcia is over-hyped. They semi scoff at Yuriorkis Gamboa and think scalp Viktor Postol got excessive credit for beating Lucas Matthysse.

Anyway, the principals made weight today in NYC. Here is the HBO release:

Saturday’s HBO World Championship Boxing® doubleheader telecast begins at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT.

Opening up the telecast from Madison Square Garden., is a 12-round lightweight attraction between Ray Beltran and Jonathan Maicelo.

The main event of the evening will be a 12-round junior welterweight title contest featuring Terence Crawford defending his title against Felix Diaz.

Official Weights from New York City:

Ray Beltran:  134.6 lbs.

Jonathan Maicelo:  134.8 lbs.

Terence Crawford:  139.2 lbs.

Felix Diaz:  139.4 lbs.
