Thurman v Garcia Weigh-In Report

on

It’s all over but for the fighting.

Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia both made the welterweight limit on Friday, and gave their stare down best at the LIU Paramount Theater in Brooklyn.

No shocks or surprises at the event, but the place was lousy with pugilistic aces in the 140 pound and thereabouts realm. Terence Crawford, the 140 pound king, watched the proceedings, as did Texas hitter Errol Spence, who fancies himself the top of the heap at 147. Shawn Porter watched as he waited to make his forthcoming welter clash against Andre Berto official.

I spoke to Spence, and he agreed with my thinking, that the Garcia v Thurman winner cannot be anointed 147 kingpin. They’d have to take on the Spence v Brook winner, and then we can get closer to clarity.

Erickson Lubin had the look and has sounded the part this week of a young gun on a run. He made 154 and I’m thinking he is craving being a spotlight thief against Jorge Cota; that scrap kicks off the CBS TV program.

A shame that an opportunity was missed and the Heather Hardy vs Edina Kiss 126 pound showdown won’t make tv. My wife was looking at pics of the two blondes on the scale and wondered aloud why in God’s name they were presenting the two hotties in combat. Good question.
