Spence V Peterson: The MLK Edition

on

Donald Trump calls them “shitholes”. Bill Clinton might call them “places of interest to shift hopes”.

Is this not what either man might use to describe the place from which a prizefighter hails? Is one being honest? And if so, is the other being disingenuous and “politically correct”?

Regardless of political persuasion, in a nation becoming the essence of uncivil war, factions characterize both as lying bastards unmarried to a public that fights with their votes. “The Truth” is not from Washington, D.C., in as much as Lamont Peterson is not from Dallas, TX, a place where JFK was violently shifted from hope by a shithole.

If MLK did “Have a Dream”, were he awakened today at 89, he’d rub his eyes and witness the realization of a nightmare: Nobody really cares about Civil Rights. It would truly hurt his heart; for as Martin Luther King Jr Day turned into January 16, he’d discover that not only was he a mere temporary trend, but a national icon of token reverence.

He died for us.

Sure, IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr (22-0, 19KOs) and Lamont Peterson (35-3-1, 17KOs) have the right to be civil on January 20 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn (LIVE on SHOWTIME 9PM/ET), but we don’t really want them civil… Right? It is after the valiant war that we’ll be interested in the exercising of civil rights between them. Because they are a few good men, both of them will admit that someone couldn’t handle “The Truth”.

Martin Luther King Jr was a one man army. A voice of reason without one to believe we wouldn’t overcome. A fight is not really symbolic of who will win when you see it, but rather, who will lose if you miss the one in front of you. Honor him. It is as simple as the 1960’s black and white television set, where Spence V Peterson will belong.
