Charlamagne Tha God Says His Favorite Boxer Is a Red-Headed Mexican

Click bait time. Let’s talk Floyd versus Conor McGregor, let’s talk that annoying subject that you are OVER, but still pay attention to, because you know it’ll happen, and therefore, you want to be in the know.

Charlamagne Tha God, the radio personality and TV presence, who has a radio show synicated in 70 markets and has a show running on MTV2, was on the Everlast podcast “TALKBOX,” and weighed in on the #Maygregor matter.

Char has had Floyd on his “The Breakfast Club” radio show before, he told us, but not in awhile. That’s because Char poked fun at the superlative pugilist while Floyd was beefing with ex bestie 50 Cent. Fiddy jabbed at Floyd’s ability to read, and CTG picked up on it. “We actually had Floyd in this other studio recording drops for iHeart radio, and his reading was reading was really bad. I played those drops over the air and it caused a really big shitstorm,” CTG said. He admitted that looking back, he feels bad about it, and regretted it the next day or so. “I didn’t use it as an opportunity to teach,” he said, and could have told people to master reading, even if you are rich as sin.

As for Mayweather versus the UFCer, CTG told TALKBOX that overall Floyd has been good for boxing. But Money vs McGregor, no, that’s bad for boxing. “That’s a side show,” Char said. He called it “stupid” and “corny.”

Too bad, because boxing is “dope,” he told us. “My favorite is Canelo Alvarez. He’s a beast, he goes in there and handles his business…He tries to knock your fucking head off.”

CTG said that the loss to Mayweather helped the Mexican red head improve as a fighter. And who else does Charlamagne dig? “Terence Crawford and Errol Spence,” he stated.

And does he bring boxers on his show. Mayweather, Adrien Broner, GGG, Andre Berto, Shawn Porter have all been on “The Breakfast Club.” He told us that Porter and he sparred last year and he got a whole new respect for the sport after that.

Who else does he dig? “I like Floyd, Floyd is the greatest defensive fighter of all time,” Char said. But Floyd is too damn good, he said, and thus, and so the fights aren’t that competitive, and thus, he’s not as keen to watch his bouts.

He did note that Floyd is 40, and we do see decline due to aging in all athletes, even the very best. He said he saw aging in GGG vs Kell Brook and GGG vs Jacobs. Thing is, GGG is still top tier. “I think he won every round but maybe one,” Char said. “Danny did do great…(he) won a moral victory, he showed us why he beat cancer.” Char attended the GGG vs Jacobs in person, at MSG. “I was behind Chappelle and Seinfeld,” he said.
